This policy explains how Collect Compare Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects and uses personal data when you use collectcompare.co.uk. We are the data controller for the information described here.

The short version
- We’re a comparison service, not a debt collection agency.
- When you choose or are matched with an agency, we pass your enquiry and contact details to that agency so they can help you — that’s the whole point of the service.
- Until you choose, agencies don’t see who you are.
- We never sell your data, and we don’t share it with agencies you didn’t choose. One exception: if your chosen agency confirms it can’t take your case, we may introduce the next best-fit vetted agency instead — we’ll email you when this happens, and we ask the original agency to delete your details.
What we collect

Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To match you with an agency and make the introduction — to take steps at your request before entering a contract, and our legitimate interest in running the service.
- To send your calculator breakdown and letter — your consent, given when you ask us to email it.
- To respond to enquiries and provide support — our legitimate interests.
- To run the agency marketplace and bill agencies — performance of our contract with the agency, and legitimate interests.
- To keep the service secure and meet legal obligations — legitimate interests and legal obligation.
Who we share it with
- The agency you choose or are matched with — including, if you used the free-text box, your description of the case. They become an independent controller of your details once introduced, and their own privacy notice then applies. If that agency confirms it can’t assist, we may introduce the next best-fit vetted agency instead — we’ll email you, and we ask the original agency to delete your details.
- Service providers who help us operate, under contract and only as needed — for example email delivery (Amazon SES) and hosting (Cloudflare). The optional “describe it in your own words” box is processed by an AI model on Cloudflare’s infrastructure solely to prefill the form — it isn’t used to train models, and the text is only stored if you go on to submit your enquiry.
- Authorities or advisers where we’re legally required to, or to protect our rights.
We do not sell personal data or share it with agencies you didn’t select — the replacement introduction described above being the one exception, and you’re always told when it happens.
International transfers
Some providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as UK adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses).
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry and lead records for as long as needed to run the service, resolve disputes and meet legal and accounting obligations, then delete or anonymise them. Calculator emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict use of your data, to object to processing, and to data portability. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To exercise any of these, email [email protected].
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, though we’d appreciate the chance to help first.

We’ll update this page when our practices change and revise the “last updated” date above.
